IMPORTANT NOTES FOR DATA EAST DISPLAY ROM CHIPS:
Some Data East and early Sega games shipped from the factory with a 1-chip setup or 2-chip setup for ROM chips on the display driver board. Display ROM chips must be ordered and replaced according to the setup you have on your display driver board.
Please see this important tech article to determine which setup you have, and which display ROM chip(s) you need to order.
Upgrading Display ROMs:
- 2-Chip Setup - Options:
- Both chips (ROM0 and ROM1) must be replaced together so that the software version is the same for both chips.
- You can convert to the 1-chip setup and order/install just the single chip (ROM0) for the 1-chip setup (requires slight board modification).
- 1-Chip Setup:
Only the 1 chip for the 1-chip setup must be replaced (chip ROM0).
All ROMs:
It is strongly recommended that game ROM chip and display ROM chip(s) are the same major revision level to avoid any software incompatibilities. Such as "A4.00" for game ROM, and "A4.00" for display ROM(s), or "A3.01" for game ROM, and "A3.13" for display ROMs, etc. Mixing major revision levels of game and display roms may cause game to not work properly (such as A4.00 game rom with A3.00 display rom.)
